Naad-hara sees the coming together of five equally accomplished musicians and singers from India and Scotland. Boldly fusing together their rich traditions of folk music with cultural integrity and an adventurous musical streak, the quintet draws on the depths and individuality of the two cultures and combine them with new compositions and improvisation through song, tunes and soundscape.

Winners of Chamber Music Scotland's 2022 Underrepresented Composers Tour Opportunity, Ankna Arockiam, Edward Cohen, and Hardeep Deerhe created Saanjh (translates as dusk in Hindi) for St Andrews Voices festival. They call on their eclectic influences to portray a collection of musical scenes. Through collaboration, cultures will merge, blending voice, piano, and tabla, with elements of improvisation and conversation.

Shared Narratives

Uchenna Ngwe and Ankna Arockiam formed Shared Narratives in 2020 as a way to support and highlight the work of researchers of colour who work predominantly in the performing arts. Shared Narratives aims to create a platform for academic voices that are often hidden, particularly in conservatoire and university settings.

Conceived as an online event from the outset, the first conference took place in November 2020, sharing research produced by researchers of colour while developing a collaborative networking space for us as academics and practitioners.
